Description

Little Manor, originally a rectory, dates from the 18th century and was extended in 1817 by Walter Brown and in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of regular coursed limestone with a string course, moulded cornice, and parapet. It has a slate roof with coped gable parapets and stone end stacks. The layout is L-shaped, with a wing to the rear. The design is in a Late Georgian style. The main front, overlooking the garden, is two storeys and an attic, with five bays. The ground floor has full-length 15-pane sashes, protected by later 20th-century plate glass outer sashes; matching sashes are above. Stone flat arches feature throughout the windows. Dormers with 6-pane sashes are set into the attic, between the second and fourth and fifth bays. A recessed addition extends to the right; an open verandah in the re-entrant angle has Tuscan columns. A two-storey, one-bay range has an oculus on the first floor, while the return side has a full-length sash window with margin bars. A single-storey range features a 15-pane sash window. The entrance, on the left return side of the main range, is accessed via a large, 19th-century ashlar porch with a flat roof, double-leaf sash doors and an overlight, all with margin bars and a moulded stone architrave, topped by a dentil cornice. A smaller, mid-to-late 19th-century former oratory, built in a Gothic Revival style, is located to the left. The left return side has a two-light window with bar tracery. The interior of the building was not inspected.
