Description
The Old Farmhouse is a mid-to-late 17th-century farmhouse, extended in the late 18th century. It is a building of group value, situated on the south side of Hanborough Main Road in Long Hanborough. The farmhouse is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with buttressing to the rear, and has a gabled stone slate roof. A stone stack, finished in brick, is located at the left end of the building, with a brick ridge stack. The original plan comprised three units. The two-storey, two-window front features timber lintels over a 20th-century two-light casement on the left and 19th-century three-light casements with iron fittings to the right. A roughcast porch, added in the 20th century, is on the right side and adjoins a 19th-century projection, part roughcast with a stone slate roof, also on the right. The central room contains stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a stop-chamfered bressumer over the open fireplace, and a possible reset spice cupboard in the rear wall, featuring butterfly hinges. The roof was not inspected.
