Description

These are two houses located at 5-7 Steady's Lane in Stanton Harcourt. Nos. 5 and 6 date from the 17th century, with a late 17th or early 18th century extension. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with render over a 17th-century timber frame on a limestone rubble plinth to the left. The houses have a half-hipped thatch roof and brick ridge stacks. The structure has been extended from a 2-unit to a 4-unit plan and consists of one storey with an attic, featuring a 5-window range.

No. 5/6 has 20th-century casement windows and a blocked door to the left, followed by a chamfered timber lintel over a central 20th-century plank door. There are stop-chamfered timber lintels over 19th-century three-light casements with shutters, and dormers that include 3-light leaded and 19th-century three-light casements. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.

No. 7, located to the rear right, is a late 17th-century structure. It features light timber framing on the front and right gable, with the rest made of coursed limestone rubble and a half-hipped thatch roof, along with a 20th-century brick end stack. The entrance is through a central 20th-century door, with 19th-century two- and three-light casements set in earlier wood-mullioned windows. The interior includes a plain beam, winder stairs with an old plank door, and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer.
