Description
The grotto located by the lake to the southwest of the Temple of Flora is a structure likely dating from the late 18th century. It is built from stone with an ivy-coloured exedro made of rough-hewn blocks, and it partly retains the surrounding landscape. The grotto features a deep arched niche in the center that provides a view of the lake. It is believed to be part of "Capability Brown's" landscaping work at Blenheim, which took place around 1760. Blenheim Park is recognized in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade I.
