Description
This former stable building, which includes a small coach-house, is located 10 meters north of Haytor House and is now used as a garage. It dates from the early 19th century and has been altered. The lower walls are made of coursed limestone rubble, while the upper walls are constructed from red and vitreous chequer brick. The building has a slate roof with coped gables, and the front gable features a small ball finial and a weathervane. It is lofted and consists of three bays, with the right bay set at a slight angle to the rest.
The front facing the square has a 20th-century lean-to projection with garage doors on the left, which replaced the former coach entry. There is a central boarded door with a shaped wooden lintel and keyblock. The right bay includes a small tilting stable window and a boarded door to the left above. The front gable end has a round loft window and blue brick diaper detailing.
An attached wall links the stable to the house; it is made of coursed limestone rubble with flat stone coping, ramping up at the stable end to a moulded stone cornice topped with a gabled finial. This building is included for its group value with Haytor House.
