Description

This is a house dating from the 15th century, originally a hall-house. A stack and floors were added, and the building was extended to the right during the mid to late 16th century. It was then refronted in the mid 18th century. The building was originally timber-framed. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with an old tile roof and brick stacks. The original layout was a 3-unit plan, with a 3-window range to the front. A mid-19th century carved bracket supports a pedimented hood over the early 20th century front door. A horned sash window is found in a blocked doorway on the right side. A stone lintel sits above a mid-18th century sash window to the right, while gauged brick flat arches are above the other mid-18th century sashes. A brick soldier arch sits above an inserted mid-19th century sash window to the left. The roof is half-hipped, with ridge, right end, and rear lateral stacks.

Inside, there are 18th century panelled and plank doors. Chamfered beams and a bressumer are above the fireplace. A winder staircase is located to the rear right. A 15th-century cruck frame is on the left side, now obscured by an inserted stack, revealing smoke-blackened timbers and mortices for a collar-yoke. A similar truss to the right exposes only a strut. A two-bay, 16th-century collar-truss roof is on the right side.
