Description
Nos. 22 and 24 on Ock Street are part of a group of buildings that were originally stables for the Clock House, surrounding a courtyard. The buildings are constructed of chequered brick. The street elevation of No. 22 features a late 19th-century glazed oriel window with a carved stone base. This section of the building projects slightly to the left and has a flat-arched window without glazing bars. There is a modern six-panel door on the ground floor, above which is a stone label inscribed "The Beaconfield."
On the courtyard side, No. 22 has seven windows with red brick flat arches. The central section, which has a pediment, projects forward and contains three windows. No. 24 is part of the central block of the former stables, which includes Nos. 22, 24, and 26. This building is two storeys high and features a central Venetian window with a stone architrave and stone brackets for the cills, flanked by two flat-arched brick windows with stone bracketed cills, below a semi-circular blocked window with a red brick arch and stone cill. There is a dentil cornice above.
To the left, there is a one-storey linking section with one window and a small parapet. The central part of the building has an elliptical carriage arch with a stone rusticated head and keystone. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, featuring a central open bell cote with a weathervane and a clock. Nos. 22 to 30 (even) form a cohesive group.
