Description

Linden House is a circa 1840s Roman cement rendered house located on Great Farthingdon Market Place. It is a three-storey building with a slate eaves roof and a central ridge stack. The building has a four-window front, featuring glazing bar sash windows. The ground floor is rusticated with incised voussoirs, and it currently contains a modern shop on the east side. A central door is framed by a moulded architrave, and a platband runs along the front. Quoins are visible on the first and second floors. Upper windows have moulded architraves, and the first floor has flat cornices supported by console brackets. A stone east end entrance porch is present. At the rear, an east-facing two-storey projecting wing is visible, characterised by decorative barge-boards and a two-window range with moulded architraves. Inside, the east side features a stair hall with an open well staircase and arches connecting the hall to a vestibule.
