Description
No 23 in Great Faringdon Market Place is a mid-17th century building that has been altered and features a roughcast front. It has a high basement and two storeys, topped with a stone tiled roof that has a truncated stack at the west end. The first floor has two triple casement windows with leaded lights. The raised ground floor is accessed by six steps and includes a four-panelled door with crude wood tracery above the fanlight. There is a squat eight-pane window on the east side. On the west side, there are two projecting box windows, with sliding sashes on the right and casements on the left. A slate lean-to hood covers the entrance. A datestone marked 1645 is positioned between the windows. The basement level features a 19th-century three-sided shopfront with plate glass, a fascia, and a cornice, along with a half-sunk door. To the east of the steps, there is a four-panel door leading to a through passage. The west side of the adjoining No 24 was originally part of the same range.
