Description
Badgewell is a house dated 1706, located on the north side of Badswell Lane in Appleton with Eaton. The building is constructed of colourwashed limestone rubble and features a gabled roof covered with 20th-century tiles, along with a stone ridge stack. It has a two-unit lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range. The entrance includes a 20th-century door beneath a timber lintel, which is sheltered by a 20th-century porch. Above the door, there is a plaster panel that reads (? initials)/1706. The windows are also fitted with timber lintels, and there is a small 20th-century light above the porch. The house has mid-20th-century extensions and a porch added to the left side and rear. Inside, there are open fireplaces, chamfered and ogee-stopped beams and joists, with plainer run-out stops on the left. A winder staircase leads to the attic, which features a three-bay collar-truss roof with cambered collars and butt purlins. Badgewell is a late dated example of a traditional lobby-entrance house.
