Description
Lower Farm is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with flared headers and features a gabled old tile roof with brick end stacks. The building is designed in an L-shape with a rear right wing and has two storeys plus an attic, presenting a symmetrical three-window range.
The entrance features a timber lintel over a 19th-century six-panelled door, which is set in a heavy frame with an overlight and a 20th-century hood. There are segmental brick arches above mid 19th-century tripartite sash windows and a two-pane sash window above the door. The façade includes a raised storey band, dentilled eaves, and three gabled roof dormers with 19th-century two-light casements. The rear wing, built in a similar style and using similar materials, has three-light leaded casements with iron fittings on the right side, while a similar but plainer two-storey wing is located to the rear left. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
