Description

Nos. 82 and 84 are two houses, now functioning as a single residence, dating from the 17th century, with later additions at the rear. The buildings feature a 20th-century concrete render over a timber frame set on a limestone rubble plinth, except for the left side wall of No. 84, which remains in limestone rubble. No. 84 has a half-hipped roof covered in concrete tiles and an end stack made of stone finished in brick, while No. 82 has a gabled concrete tile roof and a rendered left end stack.

No. 84 is a two-storey structure with a single window range and has 20th-century doors and casements. The rear includes outshuts, one of which houses a stairwell that was extended in the 20th century. Inside No. 84, there is a blocked door leading to the original lobby, a chamfered bressumer over an open fireplace with stone quoins and a spice cupboard above. The staircase features rough newel posts located at the rear of the stack. The first floor retains a timber-framed chimney, which is a rare survival, intact up to the roof level. The roof structure includes clasped purlins with windbraces, and the interior showcases 17th-century plank doors with strap hinges, chamfered beams, original floorboards, and exposed timber framing throughout.

No. 82 has similar features, including chamfered beams, floorboards, exposed timber framing, and a plank door. It also has a blocked lobby entry and two rooms divided by a stud partition, with a beam reused from a cruck building above. The roof structure here is also clasped purlin with windbraces and features a timber-framed closed truss above.
