Description
South View is a farmhouse, now a house, built around 1800. It features Flemish bond brickwork with flared headers and has a concrete tile gambrel roof with brick symmetrical end stacks. The building has a two-unit plan with a central passage and stands two storeys high, displaying a symmetrical three-window range. It has gauged brick flat arches over a 19th-century six-panelled door with an overlight and 8-pane sash windows. At the rear, there are similar sash windows and a central stair-turret with a hipped roof, flanked by late 19th-century outshuts. There is a service wing to the rear right, made from similar materials, which is one storey and has an attic. This wing has a two-bay range with a 19th-century three-light casement window next to a plank door with a bracketed flat hood. Inside, the house features early 19th-century fireplaces and doors, as well as an unusual spiral staircase with stick balusters. The house is notable for retaining an earlier 18th-century plan form and elevation.
