Description

Ferry Cottage is an early 17th-century house located in North Hinksey village. The house is constructed of coursed and dressed limestone with ashlar quoins, and has a gabled and half-hipped roof covered in tiles. A stone ridge stack, finished in brick, is visible. The building follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan.

The cottage is one storey and attic, with a two-window front. A C20 door is set beneath an ovolo-moulded wood lintel. Much-restored ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows with label moulds are present, with a three-light leaded half-dormer casement to the right. A small, early 17th-century ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned window is on the left side wall, also with a label mould. A C20 extension is located at the rear of the property.

The interior features a stepped ovolo-moulded doorframe to the right-hand room, which also contains a fireplace with chamfered bressumer and stepped ovolo-moulded stone jambs. The left-hand room has a stepped ovolo-moulded beam with run-out stops, and similar moulding to the restored fireplace lintel, along with winder stairs to the rear of the stack and a cavetto-moulded stair-light. On the first floor, a timber-frame partition is to the left and a chamfered bressumer sits over the fireplace to the right.
