Description

Martyr Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse, remodelled in the early 19th century, located in North Hinksey village. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with dressed quoins, and has brick at the top of the right gable. The roof is gabled and covered in stone slate, with brick ridge stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a rear left wing. It has two storeys and an attic, and originally featured a three-window front. A timber lintel sits above a 20th-century door in the second bay from the left. There are two early 19th-century eight-pane sash windows with chamfered timber lintels to the right, and later 19th-century sash windows to the left. The left side wall has two early 19th-century eight-pane sash windows and an early 19th-century two-storey canted bay with eight-pane sashes. Early 19th-century eight- and six-pane sashes are found at the rear. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to contain features of interest.
