Description
Christ Church, originally built by Abingdon Abbey around 1270, has medieval origins. The structure features rubble walls with ashlar quoins and deep interior window splays. The west exterior wall is buttressed, and at the north end, there is an ashlar stone gabled porch with a stone chamfered segmental headed doorway, stone coping, angle buttresses, and remnants of an ancient stone slate roof. The roof is now tiled and mostly renewed, supported by six bays of an arch-brace tie beam roof, likely from the 16th century. The building underwent significant alterations when it was converted for church use in 1961, with modern extensions added to the east.
