Description

Barnacle Lodge, built around the 1830s, is designed in the Tudor Gothic style, likely by William Atkinson for Lord Barrington of Beckett Hall, serving as a gate-lodge. The building is constructed from squared and coursed rubble stone with stone dressings and features a gabled stone-tiled roof. It has one storey and an attic, with a roadside facade that includes three bays. The southern bay is a gabled projection with a polygonal bay window that has mullioned lights and diamond glazing. The other two bays feature gabled stone-tiled and tile-hung dormers, along with two-light mullions on the ground floor, all also with diamond glazing. The gable ends are adorned with carved kneelers and Tudor finials. Additionally, there is a one-storey gatekeeper's porch attached to the south side facing the drive, which shares similar architectural features.
