Description

No. 1 Abbey Cottages is a house dating from the 17th century, with a late 19th-century addition to the rear and 20th-century alterations. The building features roughcast over timber-framing, with some timber-framing visible. It has an old plain-tile roof and brick end stacks. The house has a two-unit plan and is single storey with an attic, presenting a two-window range. There is a four-panel door at the center, which is sheltered by a lean-to hood supported on brackets. To the left and right of the door are three-light casements with leaded lights. The gabled half-dormers on either side also contain three-light casements with leaded lights. Inside, there is a winder staircase at the rear, a queen-post roof, and an open fireplace with a bread oven located in the sitting room on the ground floor to the right.
