Description
Englefield Cottage is a house dating from the mid-16th century, with a 17th-century addition on the left. The ground floor features painted brick, except for a section that is probably built on stone rubble and rendered. The first floor has irregular timber-framing with angle braces in the central bays and rendered infill. The roof is thatched and half-hipped, with a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center. The building is two stories high and has a four-window range that runs at right angles to the road. There is a plank door to the left of the center and an irregular arrangement of 20th-century casements on the ground floor. The first floor has two 18th-century three-light casements in the center and a 19th-century two-light casement to the left. At the rear, there is a three-light wood-mullion window with ovolo-moulded mullions in the center of the first floor. Inside, there are open fireplaces on the ground floor and straight flight staircases to the left and right of the center, connecting the ground and first floors.
