Description

The Old Thatch is a late 17th-century house located on the west side of North Street, Marcham. It is constructed of colourwashed limestone rubble with a gabled thatch roof. The stacks are of 20th-century brick on the left and stone finished in brick on the right. The house has a two-unit plan and one storey with an attic, featuring a two-window front. A concrete lintel sits above a central 19th-century plank door, which is set within a heavy, pegged 20th-century porch. Timber lintels are above 20th-century windows, and 20th-century dormer casements are in the roof. Inside, the house features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a chamfered bressumer over an open fireplace to the right, old purlins, and split rafters.
