Description

This granary, now used as an outhouse, dates from the early 18th century and is located approximately 12 metres northwest of Number 3 in Appleton. It features weatherboarding over a close-studded timber frame made of light scantling, resting on a high limestone plinth, and has a pyramidal roof covered with old tiles. The building is two storeys high and consists of a single bay. There is a timber lintel above the entry to the ground-floor store and a side entry to the granary on the first floor. Inside, the exposed timber framing shows notches cut on the posts, which indicate the amount of grain that was stored. This granary is included in the listing for its group value.
