Description

No. 45 Bromsgrove, also known as The Old Barn, is a farmhouse built from the late 17th century to the early 19th century, constructed of rubble stone and featuring stone tiled roofs. The building is two stories high and includes a large north end range from the late 18th to early 19th century, which has brick end wall stacks. It has a three-window range with cambered-head brick surrounds for the door and the center and northern windows, as well as glazing bar sash windows. On the south side, there is a 20-pane window on the ground floor and a triple iron-framed casement window above. A modern cement and stone porch has been added.

Adjoining the farmhouse is a lower range from the late 17th to early 18th century, which has a south wall stack. This range was originally designed with two windows, but the south end is obscured by a projecting staircase block from 1713 that has a hipped roof. A date plaque on the north side reads "1713 JRM." The west front features a 16-pane sash window with stone voussoirs. The original range includes triple casements with iron frames and leaded lights. There is also an additional one-window section of the house under a continuous roof, which has a 16-pane sash window on the first floor and a triple casement below, along with an attached stable range.

The stable range is made of rubble stone and is slightly returned at the south end. The west front has been built out with red brick on the first floor, supported by brick piers, creating an open ground floor, with modern lintels above. Inside, there is an early 18th-century narrow staircase with turned balusters and a moulded rail, along with some chamfered beams and fielded two-panel doors, all located in the central section.
