Description
The Roman Catholic Church of the Blessed Hugh and St Thomas, built in 1840, was originally a Congregational Chapel. It features cement rendered rubble stone with ashlar dressings and has minimal Gothic detailing. The church has a slate roof and a two-window front, which includes chamfered quoins, a stone plinth, and a band below a low-pitched crenellated gable. A date plaque is present on the façade. The windows are long leaded light lancets with wooden Y-tracery and stone rusticated surrounds. There is a projecting rusticated stone porch with a crenellated gable and a trefoil panel in the center, along with double doors topped by a large fanlight. The sides and rear of the building are made of rubble stone, featuring similar windows set in brick surrounds.
