Description

Chilswell Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with a rear wing added in the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and squared blocks, with squared quoins and dressings. The roof is gabled and covered in tiles, with brick end stacks. The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan. The front elevation is symmetrical with three windows, arranged over two storeys. Timber lintels are above mid-19th century sash windows, with one 6-pane sash window to the right. The rear wing is of similar materials to the main farmhouse, with a gabled roof covered in old tiles and brick stacks. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams and roofing of differing periods: a late 17th century section has a queen-post roof with windbraces, while the 18th-century rear wing has a collar-truss roof with butt purlins. A graffiti date of 1693 is visible on a window lintel.
