Description
The Vicarage is a vicarage dating from around 1850, designed by G.E. Street for Rev. W.J. Butler. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with an old tile roof and limestone ashlar stacks. The building is in an L-shape and built in the Gothic Revival style. It is one storey with an attic, and has a 4-window front. The gable wall of the left projecting wing features a cavetto-moulded 3-light cross-window with cusped heads, and above this a 2-light transomed window in a late 13th-century style. Two offset buttresses flank a wall with a moulded, pointed-arched doorway leading to an original plank door with original fittings, and are flanked by a one-light transomed window with a cusped head to the right and a 4-light cross-window with latticed lights and an iron grille to the left. A gabled half-dormer over the door has three stepped latticed lights with an iron grille and cusping to the centre light. There are exposed cusped rafters at the eaves, kneelers, and cusped heads to the coping. A gabled roof features ridge and a lateral stack. Similar detailing is visible on the side walls’ bay windows. The right side wall includes two gabled projections and a pointed-arched doorway for a 20th-century service door. A similar one-storey gabled service wing extends to the rear right, connected by a wall to a coal-house in a matching style with latticed lights. The interior retains original detailing by G.E. Street, including fireplaces, doors, a staircase, shutters, and panelling.
