Description
The Swan Inn Public House is a building that originally served as a house, with remnants of a 15th-century service end from No. 27, which is nearby. It has undergone later alterations and was originally timber-framed, now clad in 18th-century Flemish bond brick that has been colourwashed. The roof is covered with old tiles and features a brick stack. The original layout of the building is not clearly defined.
The structure is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The ground floor has segmental arches, while the first floor features timber lintels above two late 19th-century sash windows and five late 19th-century two-light casements. The roof is gabled and has a lateral stack at the front. The left gable end, which adjoins No. 27, includes a mid-18th-century sash window above a door and a window from around 1970.
Inside, the building displays exposed timber framing, with an arch brace that connects to No. 27. This framing has mortice holes indicating where other framing once existed on the site of the Swan. The assembly for the front jetty extends through to No. 27, and there is a jowled post supporting a chamfered and stopped beam. The roof structure, likely from the 17th century, is obscured.
