Description

This is a late 17th and 18th century house located on the west side of Main Street, Charney Bassett. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with a thatched roof. A brick chimney stack is situated to the right, and a stone chimney stack was inserted around 1983 to the left. The house has a simple, single-unit plan with one and a half storeys and a two-window front. Late 20th-century casement windows are topped with timber lintels. A porch was added to the left gable wall around 1983, and the roof is half-hipped to the left and gabled to the right, with a gable end stack. A small, leaded casement window is visible in the right gable wall. Internally, a 20th-century partition divides the space under a chamfered transverse beam; the joists to the right are also chamfered, featuring run-out stops. The roof structure consists of a 2-bay common-rafter roof with chamfered butt purlins. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
