Description
This is a house, likely dating from the late 16th century, with alterations and the addition of a front wing in the late 17th or early 18th century. The right wing was originally timber-framed. The construction is of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings; the right gable wall is brick, and the roof is thatched. The original two-unit plan was extended to an L-shape with the addition of a front wing. The house has one storey and an attic, with a three-window front. The gable end of the front wing has timber lintels over 20th-century casement windows; timber lintels are also above a 20th-century door and casements to the right, except for an 18th-century three-light leaded casement in a half-dormer. A half-hipped roof is present, along with a gable end stack to the right and a ridge stack to the front wing. The left side wall has a timber lintel over the original entry with a plank door, a 20th-century canted bay, and late 19th-century three-light casements; a further 18th-century two-light leaded casement is in the right gable wall. The right room’s interior features a chamfered and stopped beam and an 18th-century brick fireplace to the rear left. The front left room has a full set of chamfered and stopped beams and original newel stairs. The front wing has a three-bay, probable collar-truss roof. The original late 16th century two-unit range features a three-bay arch-braced collar truss roof with a truncated tie beam.
