Description

The White House is a house dating from the early 18th century, which was refronted around 1860. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a rendered front and right side wall, while the left side wall is made of mid-19th century brick that has been painted white. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and artificial stone slate, and the stacks are rendered in mid-19th century style. The house has a three-unit plan and is two storeys high, featuring a four-window range. The central door has been blocked and rendered. The mid-19th century three-light sash windows are set in moulded wood architraves. The gabled roof has two gable-end stacks and one ridge stack, with flat stone arches over all openings at the rear.

At the rear left, there is a mid-19th century lean-to extension that adjoins a mid-19th century gabled outhouse, which includes a two-light leaded casement window. Inside, the house features mid-19th century shutters and six- and two-panelled doors, as well as a stone flag floor in the centre room. The interior also includes chamfered beams and, to the left of the centre room, an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer. The stack of the fireplace is adjacent to a winder staircase that has an early 18th century turned newel post at the top.
