Description

Fyfield House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. The front part of the building dates from the early 19th century, while the rear sections were originally built in the 17th century and were remodeled in the late 19th century. The early 19th-century front range is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with brick quoins and dressings, topped with a hipped roof covered in 20th-century tiles. It features a central staircase layout and is two stories high with a three-window range. The central entrance has a six-panelled door flanked by French windows, and the first floor has eight-pane sash windows beside six-pane sash windows, all with brick quoins. At the rear, there is a brick stair turret. The 17th-century rear ranges are made from similar materials and include a two-story section that connects to a cross wing, built from uncoursed limestone rubble, featuring a gabled roof with old tiles and a stone ridge stack. Inside the early 19th-century range, there are six-panelled doors and a dog-leg staircase with stick balusters and moulded newels. A room at the back has an open fireplace and a chamfered beam with stops, while the other beams and principal rafters in the rest of the 17th-century range are cased.
