Description

Nos. 2 and 4, East Street, represent a two-storey building dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, with an earlier rubble and half-timbered structure behind. The front is rendered in stucco, topped by a brick parapet. Originally, there were two windows with flush frames and glazing bars, positioned beneath a frieze and cornice. Modern canted oriels now occupy the first floor. Attractive mid-19th century shop fronts are framed by carved Corinthian pilasters and a dentil cornice above the fascias. Modern glazing is present in the shop windows and doors. A central doorway features a carved pilaster with roundels, and a modern door sits beneath a rectangular fanlight. Nos. 2 to 60 (even) form a visually cohesive group.
