Description
The Former Lion Public House is a partly rebuilt 17th-century timber-framed house located on the north side of High Street. It has two storeys and features two gables, with the left gable covered in modern tiles. The exterior is roughcast, and there are two windows with three light double hung sashes in wooden frames, supported by carved brackets. A central pediment with a rough cut and tiled roof is present, along with a moulded wood band between the storeys. On the ground floor, there are two double windows with modern glazing and a modern panelled doorway topped with a gilded lion sign. To the right, there is a passage arch flanked by Doric pilasters. Historically, local farmers would hire labour in the courtyard at Michaelmas. The building is part of a group that includes Nos. 1 to 15 (odd).
