Description
37 and 39, known as Lantern Cottage, is a house dating from the early to mid 17th century. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with timber lintels, featuring plain-tile and stone slate roofs along with brick stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high with attics. The front has three windows and a door located to the right of centre, with two-light casements on both the ground and first floors. The roof is adorned with stone gable parapets, two roof dormers on the left, and a gable of a cross roof on the right, which is supported below by brick buttresses. There is a stack on the left side, and the right end features a five-light casement on the first floor, which retains the remains of an ovolo-moulded frame and leaded lights. There are also subsidiary rubble and tiled ranges to the left and rear, with the rear of the main roof made of stone slate. The interior has not been inspected.
