Description

Manor House is a building that dates from the late 17th century, with possible elements from the early 16th century, and was enlarged in 1885 by John Malcolm. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring an old plain-tile roof and stone stacks. The house has a T-plan layout and consists of two storeys plus attics.

The front of the house has five windows, with a late 17th-century symmetrical three-window range on the left. This section includes a moulded plinth and a central stone-gabled dormer that contains a three-light stone mullioned window. The first floor has stone mullioned and transomed windows flanking the entrance door, with the mullions either renewed or inserted. There are stone stacks on either side, and the gables and dormer have stone parapets with projecting kneelers.

To the right, there is a multi-gabled 19th-century range that is set forward, featuring mullioned and transomed windows along with a large rectangular bay window. The right gable wall includes a full-height canted bay. The rear wing, which is from the 16th or 17th century, has similar gable parapets and a wood mullioned window with three and four lights, as well as roof dormers with cross windows.

In the angle between the ranges on the left, there is a roughcast timber-framed stair tower with lattice casements, along with a 19th-century timber-framed wing. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to contain a fine wooden stair and four stone fireplaces dating from around 1600. The rear wing is believed to survive from a two-bay house built shortly before 1513.
