GV II

Manor House. Late C17 (and possibly early C16) and 1885. Enlarged by John Malcolm. Coursed squared limestone rubble and ashlar dressings; old plain-tile roof and stone stacks. T-plan, extended. 2 storeys plus attics. 5-window front has, to left, a late C17 symmetrical 3-window range with moulded plinth and central stone-gabled dormer containing a 3-light stone mullioned window; stone mullioned and transomed windows at first floor and flanking the door. The mullions are either renewed or inserted. Flanking stone stacks, and stone parapets with projecting kneelers to gables and dormer. To right is a multi-gabled C19 range set forward, with mullioned and transomed windows and a large rectangular bay window. Right gable wall has full-height canted bay. C16/C17 rear wing has similar gable parapets and, to left, wood mullioned window of 3 and 4 lights, and roof dormers with cross windows. To left, in the angle between ranges is a roughcast timber-framed stair tower with lattice casements. Also to left a C19 timber-framed wing. Interior not inspected but noted as containing a fine wooden stair and 4 stone fireplaces of c.1600. Rear wing said to survive from a 2-bay house built shortly before 1513.
