Description
Manor Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 18th century. It is built from limestone rubble with squared quoins and timber lintels, topped by an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks. The cottage features a three-unit through-passage plan and has one storey plus attics. The front has three windows, including a plank door with a heavy frame and a canopy supported by early 18th-century scroll brackets to the left of center. To the right, there are two 3-light casements, and one to the left, each with a 3-light gabled dormer above. The stacks are positioned to the right of center and at the left gable. There is an additional bay on the left, which was formerly a dairy and loft, featuring a tall window with a segmental head. The rear of the cottage includes a small wing, casements, irregular dormers, and a heavy plank door. Inside, there is an early 18th-century stair with turned balusters and a landing balustrade, fielded panelled doors with L-hinges, heavy joists, and chamfered beams. The interior also boasts an open fireplace with a bread oven and a moulded plank-and-vee door.
