Description

The Church of St Peter is a Grade II* listed building located in Easington, dating from the early 14th century. It is constructed of limestone random rubble with ribbon pointing and features ashlar quoins, topped with a gabled old tile roof. The church comprises a nave and chancel, with an early 14th-century three-light east window that has a string course at sill level and is flanked by corner buttresses.

The south wall has four bays, featuring two trefoil-headed lancets and two segmental-headed lights, one of which includes a piece of 12th-century zig-zag moulding above it, along with buttresses. The north wall also has buttresses and three similar lancets, as well as a reset 12th-century round-headed doorway with quatrefoil-carved imposts, leading to a late 19th-century door and timber porch. At the west end, there is a gabled bellcote.

Inside, there is an early 14th-century trefoil-headed piscina, a panelled pulpit dated 1633 that was rebuilt in 1916, and 19th-century pews. The chancel features a two-bay queen-post roof, while the nave has a three-bay arch-braced collar-truss roof from the 14th or 15th century, complete with curved windbraces and tie beams that are carved on the soffits. A queen-post truss is located at the extreme west end. The stained glass includes the east window with twelve reset 14th-century rosettes and decorative glass from the 14th century in the apex light.
