Description

Malthouse Cottage and an attached barn, likely dating from the early 18th century, were altered in the 19th century. The cottage is constructed of painted flint with brick dressings, and has a plain old tile roof with brick stacks. It is two storeys high, with a three-window front. A 19th-century verandah runs along the ground floor, and a balcony is present above it, with a 20th-century lean-to roof. A 20th-century door is on the left, alongside two ground-floor casement windows. Two French windows and a 19th-century casement window are on the first floor. Three cross gables are visible on the roof. The interior retains timber-frame construction, including a massive spine-beam on the ground floor, and features queen-post roof construction. The attached barn to the left is of flint construction with brick dressings and a plain old tile roof. This seven-bay barn also possesses queen-post roof construction.
