Description
This listing describes two barns and a shelter shed located approximately 50 metres southeast of Upper Assendon Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. The structures feature old and 20th-century weatherboarding over a timber frame, set on a base of brick and flint, with some flint walling at the rear and corners. They have a gabled roof covered with old tiles. The layout is L-shaped, consisting of a 3-bay barn on the left, connected to a 3-bay shelter shed, which leads to a 7-bay barn with aisles. Each barn has a porch with a hipped roof; the porch at the rear of the 7-bay barn includes 20th-century doors fitted with tulip-stopped strap hinges. Inside, the 3-bay barn features a collar-truss roof with clasped purlins, while the 7-bay barn has a similar roof that has been partly remodelled and includes some queen posts.
