Description
The gate pier and connecting wall at The Lodge, dating from the late 18th century, are an important part of the overall design of The Lodge. The square gate pier is made of Portland stone and is linked to the lodge by a low wall with railings. The pier features a reeded and moulded string near the top, a small moulded cap with a curved terminal, and is topped with an inverted saucer shape that is carved with convex reeding. The sides facing the road have small offsets that are finished with inverted scrolls. The Lodge and Phyllis Court Lodge, along with their associated gate piers and connecting walls, create a cohesive group at this entrance to Henley.
