Description
Phyllis Court Lodge Gate Pier and connecting wall, dating from the late 18th century, is an important part of the overall design of Phyllis Court Lodge. The structure features a square gate pier made of Portland stone, which is linked to the lodge by a low wall with railings. The pier has a reeded and moulded string near the top, a small moulded cap with a curved terminal, and is topped with an inverted saucer shape that is carved with convex reeding. The sides of the pier facing the road have small offsets that are finished with inverted scrolls. Together, the lodge, gate piers, and connecting walls create a cohesive group at this entrance to Henley.
