Description

The Old Malt House is a 17th-century malt house, later converted into a house, with a 18th-century extension. The original structure is timber-framed with colourwashed brick infill, while later walls are brick and rendered. The roof is thatched and features brick stacks. The building comprises three units, extended at both ends and at a right angle. It has one storey plus attics. The front elevation is irregular, with a 20th-century wing projecting. The original section includes a plank door and a dormer window. The rear wall was rebuilt in the 18th century using brick and incorporates an 18th-century leaded three-light casement window. The roof has two old chimney stacks. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with winder staircases to either side, along with 17th-century beams and joists and a clasped-purlin roof featuring straight and curved windbraces.
