Description

Lower Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse, with possible earlier origins. It is constructed of limestone rubble with brick dressings, and has an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The building follows a T-shaped plan. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-window front, with projecting brick quoins, a plinth, a storey band, a cill band, and a dentil eaves course. The windows have gauged-brick segmental arches. The central doorway features a six-panel door with a rectangular overlight. Most windows are two-light casements, although a pair of windows to the left of the entrance has been altered to a three-light casement. The roof has flanking stacks. Inside, the long rear wing was formerly one room on each floor, with ladder access, and may be part of an earlier house. The left side of the rear wing has projections for a massive chimney and a bread oven, while the right side has two further entrances. The rear wing has a hipped roof.
