Description

Nelly's Bar is a public house that likely dates back to the 17th century, with a refronting in the early to mid-18th century and an extension added in the late 18th century. The building is constructed from clunch rubble with some brick dressings and features an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high.

The front has four windows, with a taller two-window section that projects forward to the left. This section includes brick quoins, a dentil eaves course, and segmental arches over the ground floor windows, while the upper windows have retained their horizontal-sliding sashes. The central entrance is now located within a 20th-century porch.

The right gable wall is likely timber framed and connects to a lower rubble range that has two small casement windows on the first floor, situated above a 20th-century front extension. The roof features stacks on both the left and right sides, as well as a ridge stack aligned with the entrance. The left end of the roof is hipped and leads to a long later rear range that borders the churchyard, displaying some Flemish-bond brickwork at the far end. The rear of the main range is made of rendered timber framing and includes a small horizontal-sliding sash window and a blocked entrance aligned with the stack. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to follow a lobby-entry plan.
