Description
This building, known as Allen and Harris, is a house and shop dating from the early 18th century, with some rebuilding on the ground floor to the right carried out in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of red brick featuring flared headers in Flemish bond and has an old plain-tile roof. The structure is two stories high and has a four-window range.
The entrance includes a 20th-century six-panel door with a segmental brick head leading to a cross-passage at the center. To the left, there is a 20th-century panelled door with a gabled hood supported by brackets. On the right, there are two 20th-century shop windows. To the left of the center, there is a 6-pane sash window with a segmental brick head. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors. The first floor features 6-pane unhorned sashes, except for a 20th-century top-hung casement window to the right of the center. A brick dentil course is present at the eaves.
Inside, there is thin timber framing with painted brick infill on the walls of the cross-passage at the center, along with a chamfered spine beam on the ground floor to the right. The building is included for its group value.
