Description

This building in Wallingford began as a public house, dating back to the 17th century, and was later altered in the 19th century. It is now a shop. The ground floor has a rendered plinth and the upper walls are rendered over a timber frame, topped with old plain-tile roofing. The building is two storeys high, with a two-window frontage. A sash door is centrally positioned, and there are two-light mullion windows with decorative brackets to the mullions on either side. A jetty (overhanging upper floor) projects from the first floor and the left return, supported by a shaped dragon post. The first floor has two three-light casement windows. A rear wing to the left features 19th-century red brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern, with flared headers. The interior retains extensive timber beams. Originally called the Kings Arms Inn, the property is documented in the Victoria County History of Berkshire.
