Description

Number 12A and attached gatepier, Riverside Cottage, are a pair of houses, originally a single dwelling, dating from the late 17th century. The property was altered in the 20th century, particularly to the rear. The front of the building features a knapped flint plinth and grey brick construction, with red brick dressings and an old plain-tile roof. Brick end stacks rise two storeys. The front elevation has three windows. A four-panel, part-glazed door is centrally positioned, with an architrave surround and flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The ground floor has three-light wood casements with segmental brick heads; the central first-floor window is a single-light casement, and the flanking windows are three-light casements. A flush brick band defines the division between the ground and first floors. A dentil course runs along the eaves. The roof includes two gabled dormers. A cross-wing extends to the rear, with mostly garage doors on the ground floor and two-light casements on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected. To the right is an attached brick pier topped with a stone ball finial.
