Description

Bankside Cottage is a small house dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with timber lintels, topped by an old plain-tile roof and a brick stack. Originally designed as a two-unit through-passage plan, the cottage has one storey plus attics. The front features two windows, with a central door situated between two-light casements and small two-light dormers above. The gable walls are adorned with stone parapets and several blocked windows. At the rear, there is a small brick outshut. Inside, there is a wide open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and the remains of a bread oven, along with a central stair and a timber-framed cross partition. Evidence of the passage and a rear door can still be seen.
