Description
Brook House is a house dating back to the 16th century, with a cross wing added to the left, dated 1675 on its chimney. It is located in North Stoke, Crowmarsh. The house is constructed of flint with brick dressings, and has a plain tile roof. It follows an L-shaped plan and has two storeys, with a four-window front. A central plank door is protected by a flat hood. The ground floor has a three-light casement window to the right, a single-light casement to the left of the door, and a two-light casement in the centre. The first floor has a two-light casement in the centre and three-light casements in the cross gables on both sides. Twentieth-century angled bay windows are set on wooden brackets to both the ground and first floors of the cross wing, with a three-light casement window in the gable of the cross wing. A brick stack sits in the centre of the ridge, and there is a brick end stack to the right, and a stack to the return of the cross wing, featuring diamond-set flues. Some timber framing can be seen at the rear. Inside, the dining room and sitting room feature chamfered spine beams with ogee end stops. The ground floor of the cross wing has a moulded spine beam with decorative end stops. Original 16th or 17th century doors can be found in some rooms. A subsidiary wall is attached to the house with an inset tablet.
