Description
Lancastrian Cottage is a house that likely dates from the 16th or 17th century, with a chimneystack and alterations from that period, as well as 19th-century additions to the front and left, and 20th-century alterations. The building features large timber framing with brick infill and has an old plain-tile roof. There is a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center and a 20th-century end stack to the left. The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has a four-bay range that runs at right angles to the street. It has 20th-century plank doors to the left of the center and at the end of the cross-wing to the right. The fenestration is irregular, with mostly 20th-century casements on the ground floor and a gabled dormer on the right. On the right return, one blade of a base cruck is visible to the right. Inside, there is a winder staircase and four pairs of full crucks can be seen. The dining room to the right features a chamfered spine beam and joists with ogee end stops, as well as a chamfered bressumer with ogee end stops above the fireplace. The entrance hall in the center has a stone open fireplace with areas of brick and some fossils.
