Description

The Crown Hotel Public House and barn is an inn dated 1709, located on the south side of High Street in Benson. The building has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The ground floor is rendered, likely over limestone rubble, while the first floor features painted limestone rubble with brick dressings. The roof is covered with old plain tiles and has a brick ridge stack at the center.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a six-window range. To the left of the center, there is a sash door with a fanlight, and a 16-pane sash window to the left. There are three 16-pane sash windows to the right. A rendered flat band separates the ground and first floors. On the first floor to the left, there are two 8-pane sash windows, and a blind recessed panel is located to the left of the center. To the right of the center, there is a 19th-century two-light casement window set in an 18th-century opening, followed by another blind recessed panel and another 19th-century two-light casement window in an 18th-century opening. A brick flat band runs along the eaves, and there are two flat-roofed dormers to the left of the center. A carriageway is situated to the right, with two 16-pane sash windows on the first floor. At the rear, there is an 18th-century barn that has been altered in the 19th century.
